Even before starting his career at ISS Solutions, Matt Lunger had been an amateur radio operator (also known as a ham radio operator) for many years. Over the years, he has volunteered his time with the Operation Santa program which entails using amateur radio to let children at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital have a chance to talk to Santa. This program is held yearly by the Columbia-Montour Amateur Radio Club.

Matt has also used his passion for technology to assist with the Berwick Run for the Diamonds which is a 9-mile foot race, run mostly uphill. The radio team relays bib numbers and times back to the radio communication base during the race, to provide support in the case of injured runners or other emergencies that might occur.

Approximately 3 years ago, ISS Solutions was engaged by Montour County to assist with their IT challenges and eventually won a long-term contract with the county to provide a managed services solution for the entire IT environment. Matt Lunger took on the role of primary support engineer for Montour County and has been working with the IT Director there for the last 3 years, supporting and improving their infrastructure. It just so happens that the Montour County IT Director is also a certified amateur radio operator. Matt supports Montour County IT needs by day and volunteers by night as the county’s backup radio operator at the Montour County Emergency Communications Center.

Matt Lunger’s radio call sign is KB3JKU and the Columbia-Montour Amateur Radio Club’s page can be located at https://www.qsl.net/cm-arc/clubinfo.htm
